Issue No. 32 - Spring 2008

A few extracts ...

Editorial

I must begin by thanking and heaping lots of praise on all our past editors who have somehow managed to put together and produce issues of the Gazette. I say this from the heart because now I know(!) what a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating job it can be. However, I've enjoyed putting this issue together and hope it will be with you before the news becomes too old and covered in cobwebs.

As an author of books I have been very fortunate to have my own editor in the past. I remember always having someone who I could throw stuff at and they would sort it all out and make something presentable and readable from it, but now the boot is on the other foot!

Our previous editor Eve (2006/7) gets two thankyous from me. I have use her 2007 issue as my 'how to do it' guide and also, on reading her Editor's Forward, she finishes by saying "to enable some younger more talented wordsmith to take the reins and guide the Gazette to better things". Thank you Eve ... made my day, that! I do hope that Eve will stay on as a member, not just a friend.

This issue is light-weight but I am using it as a 'dry run'. It will also help me to get to know my computer better.

The Guild is now in its 21st year and continues to grow and change. Our committee has been reshuffled and also has some new faces in new jobs. As ever, the Editor needs your help with sories, photos, useful technical bits, jokes(!), cartoons, etc, etc. I don't have e-mail so it means popping something in the post to me; thank you in anticipation.

Our Guild One-Day Seminar and AGM - 6th October 2007

The Guild 20th Annivesary AGM was a great success and was enjoyed by everyone ... visitors, guests and members, including those who had taken an exam during the morning session. Five invited speakers gave their presentations on a wide range of subjects, all very relevant to the work being done by our membership in the field of traditional upholstery. New Entrants Training Scheme (NETS) at Hereford College - August 2007

The Nets Course in Traditional Upholstery continues to uphold and encourage a very high standard of craftsmanship, skill and knowledge of our craft. Originally based in Salisbury, the upholstery part of NETS is housed in workshops in the Livestock Market, in the centre of the city of Hereford.
